Is it just me or has FaceBook exploded onto the South African Internet landscape?

Is it just me or has FaceBook exploded onto the South African Internet landscape? It has been around for 2 years already and suddenly the climate seems to have shifted to make it nice and cozy for us South Africans to bombard it with hits too. The site is huge! It gets 8.5 million picture uploads per day on average, just to give you an idea. Just based on its photo abilities alone it kicks Flickr.com in the teeth.
I wonder what it was that suddenly got everybody onto facebook.com? Is it the slow but growing number of home Internet connections? Could it perhaps be folks who’ve had overseas web experience. You know, the folks who worked overseas and had the good fortune of experiencing true Internet?!!? Perhaps they are coming back in their numbers from their working holidays in the UK or wherever else and bring that webbing attitude home. I don’t know, but whatever it is, it is wonderful! Thank you to the more than 90 000 South Africans who have made facebook.com so cozy for all of us!

That 90 000 (at time of writing this 95 000) is only the amount of people on the South Africa network. There are actually way more people than 90 000… In my own personal friend list I have at least 100 members in South Africa who aren’t registered to the SA network.

@Eduard: I just checked to make sure, and Flickr is slumping in some dark alley after meeting Facebook. Yep, Flickr’s bleeding from the mouth, buddy.

I definitely agree that there are way more than 90 000 South Africans on Facebook. There are a ton of ppl in no network, a lot of ppl just in their work networks and a whole lot also only in High School networks.
Also, Facebook may have been around for two years but it was only opened to everyone in September 2006.
