Free movies through torrents

The VODO project was founded by “Steal This Film” director Jamie King and aims to provide a free distribution platform for independent film and – eventually – music makers. The project will collect viewer donations on the behalf of the contributing content producers.
Having been vilified by the big business of Hollywood and record companies, the benefits of peer-to-peer technology are often overlooked. To provide the distribution power of the P2P community to filmmakers, King has struck deals with many of the well known trackers such as Mininova, Isohunt, The Pirate Bay and others.
Today, VODO has announced their first official release, a documentary entitled “Us Now” which looks at the effects of online networks on the governance of countries.
Currently, VODO does not have the infrastructure to handle open movie submissions, but the service will take e-mail submissions which go under review for distribution. VODO uses a system of comment and juror reviews to decide which movies will be earmarked for distribution under the VODO torrent tracker partnership.
VODO has strong backing from torrent community icons such as BitTorrent CEO Ashin Navin, and The Pirate Bay’s Peter Sunde. The service will provide new filmmakers with an audience of millions, hopefully generating far more interest and revenue than traditional distribution methods.
