Opera Mini 5 Beta brings desktop browser features to the mobile phone

Share This November 2nd, 2009 Antowan

If you haven’t downloaded Opera Mini 5 Beta to your Java ME enabled handset then do so immediately. It is a look at the perfect tool for both touch screen phones and normal keypad phones and especially for keypad users adds a touch of the modern sleek and useful aspects you have probably been wishing for.

Normal keypad shortcuts are there but the tabbed browser and graphical drop down menu has been enhanced to a point of such sleekness it is bound to win some more awards. Even on older phones, performance is set to impress. The first time you open it, you are greeted with a screen that just screams “new and useful” at you.

The tabbed browsing ability is sleek and easy to use. I tested it on my Nokia N70 and the experience was really stellar. You can now add your favorite sites to a start screen by simply assigning them to different buttons displayed with a thumbnail view of a partial snippet of the site it is assigned to. Search using your favorite search engine is just a menu button click away as well. The drop down menu that conveniently drops in when needed and disappears to make screen real estate available is super handy.

It is truly amazing how they managed to make a browser for the smallest screens we use daily that efficiently displays data, makes searching a breeze and navigation so easy it makes you smile constantly. The added password manager is also extremely handy! This is a winner!

I got that for my phone, but when it loads my screen goes black and it takes its sweet time to load. I have a sony erricsson phone. Maybe its just a bug. I have used the software a while. There are a few bugs like if you look up a symbol the text list is horizontal, this might go across the side of the screen. The tabbed features are a fresh idea for the product.
