Demonoid showing signs of life

According to TorrentFreak the torrent tracker Demonoid is once again operational. The semi-private tracker has been down for almost two months, apparently due to hardware issues.

This should be good news for a multitude of users who have been saddled with incomplete downloads during the downtime.

The tracker still appears to be experiencing difficulties in coming back to full operation, with reports of intermittent downtime. The site is still hosted in the Ukraine but the web frontend of the service is not back to full operation.

It remains to be seen how much data has been lost, and how many user accounts have been lost. For now, users can manually add additional tracking URL’s to help revive aging torrents.

According to the TorrentFreak report, it is likely that recent members to the site will have lost their accounts, and the newer torrents will have to be resubmitted. “A loss of some month’s worth of activity including registered users and torrent submissions is to be expected,” Demonoid staff warned.

This isn’t the first time Demonoid has experienced downtime, with the last incident being back in September 2007. This was apparently due to legal threats. In this case the tracker also returned to operation before the Web frontend, which was revived almost two months later.
