Safety of electronic cigarettes questioned

Share This January 14th, 2010 rpm

California’s attorney general is seeking to halt the sale of one company’s electronic cigarettes in the state, saying they contain dangerous chemicals and are being marketed to children.

State Attorney General Jerry Brown filed suit Wednesday in Alameda County Superior Court against Florida-based Smoking Everywhere Inc., a leading manufacturer of e-cigarettes.

Brown says the company has no evidence to back up claims their product is safe.

Smoking Everywhere’s devices look like regular cigarettes but are battery-operated and contain cartridges of nicotine. A heater converts the chemical into a vapor.

The company did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration found last year that e-cigarettes contain carcinogens.

Acutally, it’s an atomizer that is used to convert the liquid to vapour. There is no heating involved at all.

And so the sneaky ciggy manufactures and cancer drug makers start their lobbying.

The e-cig may not harmless but it’s definitely a better alternative to smoking then the traditional cigarette. If a minor is going to spoke let it be the e-cig rather then the tobacco one. It’s definitely healthier.

To say they “contain carcinogens” is rather misleading. The tobacco-flavoured syrups were found to contain traces of carcinogen – far far less than tobacco.

I’ve been using one for 4 months, and my health has definitely improved.

Ya I agree, it is very misleading. These are just some politicians with hidden agendas. What are they trying to do get people not to quit smoking or find a healthier alternative? If they were really interested in helping smokers than they would help the e-cigarette industry, not go after it and try to demolish it.
