New Telkom ADSL pricing here
|August 1, 2006|
Telkom’s new ADSL access charges and wholesale ADSL ISP rates kick in today, which also means all DSL 192 customers, will be upgraded to DSL 384.
Telkom recently announced an average 24% reduction in their ADSL access portion, resulting in an effective price decrease of around 12% on your total ADSL bill.
The latest price reductions will coincide with DSL 192 customers automatically being upgraded to DSL 384. Telkom’s DSL 192 product will cease to exist.
Many DSL 192 subscribers have reported that the promised upgrade has not taken place yet, but this will most likely occur in time. There is however uncertainty as to wherther these Telkom DSL192 customers will be charged for DSL384 service while they wait for the upgrade to occur.
Telkom could also unfortunately not provide any feedback in time for this article regarding upgrade time frames and billing procedures.
New Cybersmart prices
While this upgrade will not affect many ADSL subscribers apart from receiving a lower monthly bill or a higher speed, some Cybersmart customers – who receive a discounted 3 GB 192 service from the ISP – may be concerned about the effect of the upgrade on them.
Cybersmart has however calmed fears of a sudden increase, saying that customers will first receive an email from them when they see that a DSL 192 subscriber has been upgraded to DSL 384.
Cybersmart has also reduced the price of their 3 GB DSL 384 product to insure that there will be no effective increase in total ADSL costs to their existing DSL 192 customers.
Wholesale Rates Reduced
The wholesale ADSL ISP costs also kick in today, where ISP’s can expect savings from between R 1-09 and R 11-26 depending on the ‘amount of GB usage’ sold per month.
While some ISP’s have indicated that they will adapt their prices due to the latest wholesale price reduction from Telkom, others said that it is too insignificant to change their current pricing structure.
