The advert is of a man who goes to what Virgin called a ‘Fantasy Heaven’, only to be sent back down to earth when it is revealed that he is still tied to his cellphone contract.
Christians submitted a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority to try and get the advert pulled.
The ASA Directorate however ruled in favour of Virgin stating that the ad did not refer to any specific religion and stated that it was within the bounds of advertising ethics.
The group of outraged Christians did not stop there and started to talk about boycotting Virgin Mobile as they felt the advert was blasphemous.
According to statements made to the Beeld the Virgin Mobile spokesperson Nicholas Maweni said on Wednesday that the company was concerned about any group of people that considered such steps and that the company had not intended to cause offence.
Maweni said the ad would be taken off the air, but could not say when but added that their marketing department was working on alternative advertising material.
