Playstation 3 claims not allowed
| March 27, 2007 |
Sony’s Playstation 3 was launched in South Africa recently, and although many people would argue that it is the most advanced games console on the market today, some advertising claims seem to have gone overboard.
A Playstation 3 advertisement which appeared on the CNA website claimed that “The PS3 is built on the revolutionary cell-processor, which is 8 times more powerful than most computers” and that the “RSX Graphics Technology – twice as powerful as the most advanced computer graphics engine available today.”
Four complainants, Mr. SR McDonald, Mr. Craig Nicholson, Mr. Gareth Seiler and Mr. L Goller, disputed these claims saying that the advertisement is misleading as the respondent has no proof to substantiate the claims.
The Advertising Standards Authority of SA upheld the complaint and ordered CNA to withdraw the claims with immediate effect.
