Telkom seems unlikely to offer an uncapped ADSL service, but looks to give more value to subscribers

A few weeks back Telkom revealed that an uncapped ADSL offering aimed at the consumer market was under development.

Telkom spokesperson Ajith Bridgraj said that uncapped, speed-locked ADSL service consumer offerings were in development.  “However, no time-frames, offering specifications or price points can be disclosed at this stage. In the development process, Telkom is striving for optimal quality, reliability and affordability,” Bridgraj concluded.

Information from the fixed line provider however now suggests that Telkom is not immediately planning to offer uncapped ADSL services to consumers, but are looking at providing more value by increasing the usage limits on its current ADSL packages.

According to one source Telkom is considering a June 1 launch of the new packages, something which may coincide with the official launch of their 10 Mbps ADSL service.

Telkom’s strategy to up usage limits, if this is indeed the plan, could be a way to minimize churn of their customer base to the more attractive uncapped offerings from the likes of ISPs like MWEB, Axxess and Afrihost.
