Afrihost recently informed a group of their uncapped ADSL subscribers that they “made some changes to your uncapped account which we believe will improve the overall performance and speed of your ADSL connection with us”.
The changes Afrihost are referring to is essentially moving high end uncapped users from the Afrihost accounts to the standard shaped uncapped ADSL accounts from Internet Solutions.
Afrihost Director Greg Payne explains that they have been monitoring their uncapped accounts and comparing these to the IS uncapped accounts, and the IS uncapped accounts generally perform a lot better after hours.
“For users that downloaded a lot of content after hours, it made sense to make use of the IS uncapped solution,” says Payne.
Payne added that not all uncapped ADSL subscribers were migrated to IS accounts, but that subscribers who consume a lot of data, especially after hours, have been moved.
“The IS uncapped solutions have better performance at night when their network is not that busy and we wanted to make sure our users benefited from this,” said Payne.
Payne is confident the migrated consumers will experience higher service levels: “The users who download a lot of content at night will receive a better experience and we have already seen that they are able to download more on these accounts.”
Payne added that while their capped accounts remain unchanged, these consumers may experience higher service levels “as their network will be less congested.”
