Telkom’s ‘single purse’ data offering incorporating ADSL, HSDPA and Wi-Fi nearly ready for launch

The South African broadband market is becoming increasingly competitive, both in terms of the number of different services and the variety of broadband data bundles which are available.  This has led some providers to launch single-account data offerings where consumers can use their data using various access mediums like ADSL, 3G/HSDPA and Wi-Fi.

The most prominent one-account service offering is the G-Connect data bundle where consumers can use their data through an ADSL line, an HSDPA connection or at Wi-Fi hotspots.  The company is also planning to launch in-flight Wi-Fi soon which will make the G-Connect accounts even more valuable.

Telkom’s one-purse account

Telkom has previously said that its extensive and varied network enables it to provide unrivalled bundled broadband services, and this plan is now coming to fruition.  The company is finalizing a bundled broadband offering which will include ADSL, 3G/HSDPA and Wi-Fi access.

These one-purse broadband packages will make it possible for subscribers to use the data on any of the included access mediums without having to purchase different accounts.  Telkom said that the development of this product is closely linked to customers’ needs, and it will add value to their broadband subscriber base.

Telkom is aggressively expanding its 3G/HSDPA network and already has an extensive Wi-Fi hotspot footprint.  This means that Telkom is well positioned to offer bundled broadband services over various access mediums.
