Neotel recently launched their NeoBroadband Fibre 5 Mbps service aimed at the business market. This is how it stacks up against a business ADSL service.
Neotel recently launched its NeoBroadband Fibre services aimed at the business market. According to the company these offerings are suitable for clients whose “applications are bandwidth intensive”.
NeoBroadband Fibre offers clients uncapped Internet access, a managed CPE device and 5 fixed public IP addresses. The service essentially competes against Telkom’s high end ADSL offerings, and it is of value to compare the two offerings side by side.
One of the big advantages of Neotel’s fibre offerings is that it is symmetrical which means that the uplink speed is equal to the downlink speed. The higher upload speed is of value to business sending out a fair amount of data.
NeoBroadband Fibre is an uncapped offering, and to do a fair comparison between ADSL and Neotel’s fibre broadband service one should use a business grade ISP ADSL service.
MWEB Business’ uncapped ADSL service, priced at R2359 per month, comes with 5 fixed IP addresses and unshaped, uncapped bandwidth, making it suitable for this comparison.
Both MWEB’s uncapped business ADSL service and Neotel’s NeoBroadband Fibre offering are available on 12 month contracts which include the cost of the customer premise equipment.
The table below provides a basic comparison between Neotel’s 5 Mbps NeoBroadband Fibre service and MWEB’s 4 Mbps uncapped business offering.
| Download Speed | Upload Speed | Total Setup/Installation Cost | Total Monthly Cost | |
| NeoBroadband Fibre | 5 Mbps | 5 Mbps | R1,710 setup | R5,841 |
| 4 Mbps ADSL MWEB Business | 4 Mbps | 512 Kbps | R1,500 (MWEB) + R627.23 (Telkom) | R2,492 |
