Research firm Point Topic released their global broadband statistics report for Q1 2012, revealing that China now has over 160 million broadband users.
The latest figures show that over a quarter of the 600 million fixed broadband connections globally are in China.
China also continues to pull away from all other markets worldwide. During the first quarter of the year it was responsible for 42.5% of global net additions.
The USA increased its growth rate in Q1 2012, putting on almost half a million more new subscribers than the previous quarter. The health of the cable market in the US is a major contributor to this success.
“For the rest of the current Top 10 the picture is mixed. Germany, the UK, Brazil and South Korea are the other markets doing better in Q1 2012 than in Q4 2011,” the Point-Topic report stated.
