Telkom versus Neotel

Neotel has launched two consumer WiMax products, called NeoFlex WiMAX Lite, offering uncapped data at speeds of 512kbps and 1Mbps respectively.

Neotel’s uncapped 512kbps WiMax service is priced at R499 per month while its 1Mbps WiMax service is priced at R750 per month.

Both services have a once off installation fee of R500, and have fair use limits of 120GB on the 1Mbps product and 60GB on the 512kbps service.

Neotel’s NeoFlex WiMAX Lite products compete directly against Telkom’s entry level ADSL offerings, which also offer uncapped usage on some packages.

The following table provides an overview of how Neotel’s NeoFlex WiMAX Lite service compares with Telkom uncapped DSL offerings.

It should be noted that Telkom is currently upgrading all 1Mbps ADSL subscribers to 2Mbps, and will soon start to upgrade 384kbps ADSL customers to 1Mbps. This means that Telkom’s 384kbps ADSL service will soon be redundant, and was therefore not used in this comparison.
