The latest Net Index statistics reveal that Bryanston is the top broadband suburb in South Africa with an average speed of 10.54Mbps, followed by Midrand with 7.78Mbps and Kloof with 4.61Mbps.
The Net Index website, which uses data from millions of recent test results from Speedtest.net, shows that South Africa had an average download speed of 3.18Mbps. This is significantly lower than the global average of 11.66Mbps.
However, the top South African suburb (Bryanston) shows speeds which are very close to the global average. It is interesting that the average upload speed in Bryanston is 11.53Mbps, well above the global average of 4.26Mbps.
The high download and upload speeds in Bryanston may point to tests from fibre connections with symmetrical speeds, or even test networks for new technologies such as LTE.
