8ta has received over 7,000 applications in less than a week for participation in its free LTE trial. The mobile operator will now close the application process to begin identifying successful applicants for participation in the trial.

“The successful applicants will be contacted by 1 November 2012 to arrange the completion of the necessary documentation and to arrange installation,” 8ta said in a press statement.

After successful applicants have been identified – and they have accepted to form part of the trial – 8ta will begin the installation of the LTE customer premise equipment (CPE). This is expected to start on 4 November.

8ta will also contact applicants who were not successful in their application to participate to give the company more insight into the development of LTE coverage and offerings.

The 8ta LTE coverage page will remain available so that prospective customers can monitor LTE coverage in their areas as the mobile operator continues to grow its LTE footprint in the region.

Earlier this month 8ta said that customers within 8ta’s LTE coverage areas across the Gauteng region will be able to apply to participate in the trial from 1 November 2012 until 31 March 2013.

The LTE service offered for the trial will include a 50GB data bundle and an LTE enabled device.
