Telkom Internet today (26 October 2012) reported an overwhelming response from qualifying customers to participate in its high speed broadband pilot. “Customers already on the trial have reported much faster upload and download speeds,” Telkom said.
The trial will run for a few months, and Telkom Internet is encouraging customers to visit the following website to determine whether they qualify to participate: http://www.telkom.co.za/highspeed
Earlier this month Telkom Internet invited its customers already using the 4/10 Mbps broadband access product to participate in the high speed broadband trial.
Qualifying customers are required to be covered by Telkom’s MSAN footprint in the following areas: Benmore Gardens, Fourways and Waterkloof in Gauteng; Durban North in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Durbanville in the Western Cape.
“Telkom Internet has had a great response from customers meeting this requirement. These customers have been supplied with a free VDSL router in order to test the broadband speeds. This VDSL router will not be required to be returned upon the completion of the technical trial,” Telkom said.
Telkom Internet has also enabled a self-Install option for qualifying customers whereby they can collect their modems from their nearest participating Telkom Direct store. In all, 12 stores are participating, namely:
- Overport and Gateway in Durban
- Randburg and Fourways in Johannesburg
- Menlyn and Hatfield in Pretoria
- Table View, Canal Walk, N1 City, Bellville, Tygervalley and Capegate in Cape Town.
Participating customers will not be charged any additional cost during the pilot and will continue to pay their current subscription DSL and ISP charges.
Telkom Internet wishes to highlight that all participating customers will revert to their original broadband speeds and services upon completion of the technical trial. The trial will terminate at the end of January 2013.
