MWEB’s 2GB for R89 is currently the best mobile broadband deal for smaller data allowances, followed by Cell C’s R99 for 2GB.

MWEB announced this month that it has partnered with Cell C to offer consumers a 2GB Cell C data package at a discounted rate of just R89 per month.

According to MWEB it is subsidizing each of the 2GB packages at R10 per month, making it the most affordable 2GB data contract in the country.

Vodacom, MTN and Cell C are running similar data promotions, raising the question how the different packages compare on price.

The following table provides an overview of the 2GB mobile data prices in South Africa. It should be noted that these are contract rates which exclude a modem (with the exception of MTN).

Mobile provider Data Monthly price
MWEB 2GB R89
Cell C 2GB R99
MTN 2GB (includes device) R139
Vodacom 2GB R139
