Teraco switches on second data centre in Johannesburg, complementing its existing Cape Town hosting environment
Teraco announced last week that they had switched on their Johannesburg Data Centre in Isando. In a press statement the company announced that, “On the 11th January 2010, the Teraco Data Centre in Johannesburg went live!”
“The facility power has been switched on and acceptance tests completed of the UPS and Generators. The cooling and fire suppression systems are operational and in final testing. The data centre has been secured and is already busy with its first customer installation.”
Teraco further said that monitoring systems have been installed and will be commissioned this week while carrier connectivity from several fibre network providers is now available in the facility. “Telkom is currently busy installing its node and will be commissioning this week. Contractors are now focused on finishing external work and office areas,” Teraco said.
Teraco opened their first vendor neutral data centre in the Great Westerford Building in Cape Town early last year. The 600 square meter data centre focuses on providing hosting space to service providers and high-end clients such as carriers, ISPs, managed service providers and corporate businesses.
The Johannesburg facility adds another 640 square metres to the Teraco hosting portfolio, with plans to extend the facility to 3800 square metres. Teraco is also extending their Cape Town capacity by 800 square metres which they plan to launch in late 2010.
