South Africa’s IT jobs market shows good growth after a poor start to 2011

Summary: August 2011 CareerJunction Index (CJI) Report shows that there is increasing demand for IT professionals, with a shortage of Software Developers, Business Analysts and Software Testers

CareerJunction recently published their August 2011 CareerJunction Index (CJI), giving an overview of the latest recruitment supply and demand trends in South Africa.

According to the report, the South African job market is showing signs of stabilization as job advertising is on a steady growth path.

“CJI’s figures for August show the number of new jobs advertised is 2% higher than a year ago. This comes after a lengthy period of decreasing job advertising,” the August 2011 CJI states.

IT Jobs

MyBroadband recently reported that the IT Jobs market were recovering after a decrease in hiring activity after a significant decline in the first half of 2011. Good news for IT professionals is that this trend is continuing.

According to the CJI report “the Information Technology industry continues to show signs of increasing demand for labour, following a significant decreasing trend from November 2010 to May 2011”.

There is a particularly strong demand for Software Developers, Business Analysts and Software Testers.

Telecoms jobs

The local Telecommunications market is showing a similar trend to the IT market, with a steady increase in demand for telecoms professionals.

“As more businesses are hiring [telecoms professionals], the recruitment market is becoming slightly more competitive,” the CJI report states.
