Numerous Vodacom and MTN subscribers have reported BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) problems today (10 October 2011). Subscribers in all regions of South Africa reported connectivity problems using BIS.

Initial indications suggest that the problem is related to a glitch on the international BlackBerry/RIM network rather than local connectivity issues.

The Telegraph reported that millions of BlackBerry users in Europe, Asia and Africa have been left without services caused by problems at Research in Motion (RIM).

Vodacom confirmed the reports that the problems are caused by issues on the RIM network, but could not give any further details.

MTN also confirmed the problems, but referred all media queries to RIM.

RIM/BlackBerry said that they “are working to resolve an issue currently impacting some BlackBerry subscribers in Europe, Middle East and Africa.  We’re investigating, and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused whilst this is resolved.”
