Vodacom is currently running a “Night Shift Recharge Promotion” and a “Power Hour Promotion”, making it possible for pre-paid subscribers to get 540 Vodacom-to-Vodacom minutes for R12.
Vodacom’s Night Shift
Vodacom’s Night Shift Recharge Promotion, which has been extended to 31 July 2012, gives subscribers free Vodacom-to-Vodacom calls from midnight to 5AM.
To qualify for this promotion, subscribers have to recharge with a R12 voucher and will then get 60 free on-net Vodacom minutes per day, for the next 7 days. A user can therefore get up to 420 free Vodacom-to-Vodacom minutes per week.
It should be noted that the 420 Night Shift minutes are provided free of charge, which means that a subscriber still has R12 to spend on airtime or data.
Vodacom Power Hour Promotion
Vodacom’s “Power Hour Promotion” gives pre-paid subscribers 60 free on-net daytime minutes for R5 per day.
A subscriber who has recharged with R12 can spend R10 of this money (hence two R5 “power hour” days) on Vodacom’s Power Hour promotion which will get them 120 daytime minutes.
Combining the two promotions
When a subscriber recharges with a R12 voucher they automatically get 420 Vodacom-to-Vodacom minutes. Using R10 of this R12 voucher, a user can get an extra 120 on-net daytime minutes (two R5 “power hour” days of 60 minutes each).
The combined total of 540 minutes (420 Night Shift minutes + 120 Power Hour minutes) means that the effective price per minute can theoretically go down to around 2.2c per minute.
These promotions from Vodacom come amidst the launch of Cell C’s aggressive pre-paid and post-paid services which slashed their mobile call costs to 99c per minute. This rate from Cell C is applicable to local (on-net and off-net) and international calls.
