An industry source has confirmed that Cell C and Vodacom have signed a roaming agreement that will let Cell C roam on Vodacom’s 3G network.

Before this agreement was in place, Cell C only had a 2G roaming agreement in place with Vodacom.

In May 2012, industry sources told MyBroadband BusinessTech that Cell C was in negotiations with both Vodacom and MTN regarding a 3G roaming agreement.

None of the networks wanted to confirm the discussions, and neither Cell C nor Vodacom was willing to confirm whether their new agreement included 3G.

Spokespeople for Cell C and Vodacom have confirmed that they recently signed a new roaming agreement, however.

“We have reached agreement on the revised terms of our existing national roaming contract with Vodacom,” Cell C said.

The agreement is effective immediately, Cell C said, and the new terms are much more favourable to them.

However, the details of the agreement are confidential, Cell C said.
