Vodacom said that they have received a shipment of nano SIMs and that these new SIMs should be in stores by the end of the week.

In mid-September Vodacom informed their trading partners that they should “order new Nano SIM cards to be used in a soon to be announced new handset”. The new Vodacom nano SIM can be used by contract, top-up, and pre-paid subscribers.

At the time, Vodacom did not have any nano SIMs in stock, and according to a few Vodacom stores there were no time frames on when these new, smaller SIMs would arrive in South Africa.

Vodacom has now clarified the issue, and said that they have “received a shipment and they should be in stores tomorrow [27 September 2012] or Friday [28 September 2012]”.

The new nano SIMs will be used in a recently announced iPhone 5 which is starting to appear in South Africa through direct imports.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub recently said that they expect to launch the iPhone 5 in South Africa before the end of the year.
