After months of extending its Mahala Thursdays promotion, MTN has announced that October 2012 will be the last month the promotion will run.

Under the terms of the special offer, TopUp and PayAsYouGo customers had to sign up for MTN Zone and then recharge with at least R10. Subscribers then receive 50% of the recharge amount extra, which can then be used for MTN to MTN calls, SMS, and mobile data.

International calls, premium-rated calls, data calls, video calls and MMS services are excluded, MTN said.

“Even though this will be the last month of Mahala Thursdays, our customers can still enjoy other Mahala offers such as MTN Mahala Nights and MTN Mahala Weekends on MTN Zone, where they can enjoy up to 100% discounts on calls and SMSes,” said Serame Taukobong, MTN South Africa’s chief marketing officer.

To join MTN Zone users need to dial 1414*2#. According to MTN, moving to the MTN Zone price plan is immediate. MTN Zone users can then dial *135# or contact the MTN Call Centre to learn about currently available discounted rates in their location.
