Cell C is calling for lower mobile termination rates, getting rid of peak and off-peak pricing and stopping the practice of charging different rates for on-net and off-net calls.
Speaking at the 2012 MyBroadband Conference, Cell C Chief Commercial Officer Jose Dos Santos said that mobile termination rates need to keep coming down to create a more competitive mobile market.
Dos Santos further said that charging different rates for on-net and off-net is anti-competitive, essentially giving large operators an unfair advantage in the market.
The Cell C CCO added that it is time to get rid of peak and off-peak rates, highlighting the company’s 99c per minute call rate to all operators (including international destinations) at all times.
Dos Santos is echoing Knott-Craig’s recent comments where he said that differentiating between peak and off-peak calling is an archaic pricing model which has no place in our modern world. He called on the regulator and operators to do away with this practice.
