The HUD adds a new option for accessing the menus, without removing the old options. And, after playing around with it, I can say that it is very convenient for many taks - as long as the traditional menu is still there to give you an overview over the existing funtionality of a program. Whenever you want to be productive - the opposite of playing flash games on the internet or playing mp3s - the keyboard approach is extremly quick and convenient. In that way the mayor's promises will have been fulfilled in weeks, if not days. This is a golden opportunity to come up with a model that can truly conquer the digital divide in South Africa. If they fail to implement it properly we will all be worse off for it. I truly wish that everybody could see the real bigger picture here - in time broadband will be almost free everywhere - but free can also be used as an excuse to cheapen a product or service by not supporting- or implementing it properly and in effect diminishing it's usefulness.
