The successor to Samsung’s first 10-inch tablet, the Galaxy 10.1v, made its début in Cape Town last night (26 July 2011) and will be launched to a Johannesburg audience tomorrow (28 July 2011) in Sandton.

Samsung is hosting these launch events for its new Galaxy S2 smartphone as well as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (note the absence of the “v”).

While many operators already have deals available for the Samsung Galaxy S2, it was only recently revealed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1v was no longer being sold in SA in anticipation of the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

When Samsung first announced the new 10-inch Galaxy Tab earlier this year, they unveiled its slightly smaller sibling, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, along with it.

Though the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is expected to launch on all of SA’s mobile network operators on 1 August 2011, details around the 8.9 aren’t confirmed yet.

According to Samsung they will be bringing the Galaxy Tab 8.9 to South Africa and are looking at a Q3/start of Q4 launch.

Samsung have pegged the recommended retail price of the 32GB Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P4) at R7,599 – the same price as a 64GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity.
