TV price cuts with great deals

Plasma, LCD and LED television prices continue to decline with aggressively priced deals from major retailers

By - March 9, 2012

The price of flat screen televisions continues to decline with major brands and retailers fighting for market share with aggressively priced promotions.

The latest spate of TV deals includes the price of a top-range LG 50-inch full HD 3D plasma TV, dropped to below R10,000. It is possible to purchase a lesser known brand (Sinotec) 55-inch LCD TV for under R10,000 as well.

Many retailers, including Makro, Dion Wired, Game and Hi-Fi Corporation are offering TVs at prices which are hard to beat.

Samsung UA32D5000

What do you do when your rival features the Samsung UA32D5000 32-inch Full HD LED TV for R4,799? If you’re Dion Wired, you run a web special on the same television for R3,900.

The TV features 100Hz clear motion rate, however the real stand out feature is Samsung AllShare. AllShare allows you to connect wirelessly to compatible phones, laptops and even cameras to share multimedia content.

LG 50-inch Full HD 3D Plasma 50PZ550

By far the standout deal of the week, Dion Wired have the LG 50PZ550 on special for R9,500.

This 50-inch Full HD plasma TV features 3D support, a 600Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi capabilities, a 3 million to 1 dynamic contrast rate, and 2D to 3D conversion on the fly.

According to Retrevo this model is reaching the prime of its life cycle, and is a “good buy for everyone”. We at Mybroadband agree – you would be hard pressed to find a brand name TV this large with such a comprehensive feature list for under R10,000 locally.

Sinotec 55-inch LCD

A few weeks ago, Game was offering a 55-inch Telefunken LCD TV for under R10,000. This week Makro has replied in kind with their own deal, R9999.00 for a 55-inch Sinotec Full HD television.

It might not live up to the quality of the more well known brands such as Samsung or LG, but the price tag is sure to appeal to those who care more about size than ultimate picture quality.

LG 60-Inch Full HD 3D Plasma 60PZ550

The 60-inch version of the plasma television above also happens to be on special this week. Foto Discount World has the LG 60PZ550 60-inch Full HD plasma TV priced at R15,999.00.

3D support, a 600Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi capabilities, a 3 million to 1 dynamic contrast rate, and 2D to 3D conversion on the fly are all present on this model.

This is one of the cheapest 60-inch class TVs locally, and that’s before you factor in the extensive list features as well as the brand name.
