Nokia and MTN announced the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 in South Africa at an event in Johannesburg today (19 June 2012).

The Nokia Lumia 900 boasts a 4.3 inch ClearBlack AMOLED display, and includes Nokia’s signature Lumia services such as Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Mix Radio.

It is scheduled to arrive at MTN stores across the country on 28 June 2012, available on an MTN Anytime 200 contract for R369 per month for 24 months including 75MB internet bundle for the duration of the contract.

MTN declined to provide any further contract pricing information.

In a press statement issued during the launch event, MTN said that the first 200 customers will be able to buy limited edition Lumia 900 smartphones embossed with the Batman logo at four participating MTN stores: Morningside (Johannesburg), Gateway (Durban), Canal Walk (Cape Town) and Port Elizabeth.

Vodacom previously told MyBroadband that it would not be offering the Nokia Lumia 900.
