There are a number of options when buying an iPad on contract in South Africa, for those who may not want to buy it outright.

The third generation of Apple’s iPad launched in SA on 27 April 2012, and as with its predecessor it is available on Vodacom, MTN, and Cell C contracts at certain Apple resellers in SA.

Resellers such as Game, Nashua, and FNB also have contract deals available for the older 16GB iPad 2 at a lower monthly price than its iPad 3 equivalent.

A large number of retailers have the iPad 3 available, though all of them don’t necessarily list the contract deals they offer online. Digicape, FNB, Game, iStore, and Nashua do list their contract deals, however.

The table below compares the contract deals on offer for Wi-Fi only iPads:

Wi-Fi only iPad deals iPad 3 16GB iPad 3 32GB iPad 3 64GB
RRP R4,999 R5,999 R6,999
FNB* R205 N/A N/A
Vodacom Std My Gig 1 @ Digicape R339 R389 R429

MTN 2GB @ iStore R349 R389 R439
* Excludes account fees: R97 p/m for Gold, R120 p/m for Platinum and Private Clients

The iStore and Digicape websites do indicate that the contract deals expired in April or June 2012, but iStore’s call centre confirmed that the fine print on its website was just out of date.

According to the call centre agent, the iStore he contacted to confirm the availability of the contracts informed him that their deals would be valid until about October.

The following table looks at deals on Wi-Fi + 3G iPads:

We cover Zuma because he affects us all: Motsoeneng

President Jacob Zuma speaks at the release of South Africa's 20 year review document at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria, Tuesday, 11 March 2014. Zuma said the review was government's "factual and frank" account of how South Africa had fared since 1994. "The review is packed with facts and figures, it is honest and frank in its approach. Where facts indicate that we have challenges and we have made mistakes we say so," said Zuma. "It is government's most accurate account of work done in the past 20 years... it is about progress made and work that still needs to be done to move South Africa forward." Picture: GCIS/SAPA
