Top gadgets expected at IFA 2012

The tech industry prepares for new hardware reveals from the world’s biggest tech companies

This year’s IFA consumer electronics expo is drawing significant attention thanks to rumours of high-profile product unveilings.

Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, and Lenovo will all be present and are expected to reveal a number of new devices and technologies within the market.

Sony’s 84-inch 4K TV 

Sony is rumoured to announce its first 4K, 84-inch LCD TV at the show.

Sony is planning to give the TV a “re-imagined retro-style appearance with a modern twist.”

The TV can display a massive 4096 x 3072 resolution (four times the number of pixels in a conventional 1080p set), being referred to in the industry as 4K.

New Sony Xperia tablet PC

Sony is speculated to be unveiling a new Xperia quad-core tablet PC, featuring a keyboard/cover similar to that of Microsoft’s Surface tablet.

The Xperia Tablet will be equipped with a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 3G connectivity and 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of internal storage.

The slate will feature a 6,000 mAh battery that will supply roughly 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, and will support Android 4.0 and following versions.

Next Sony Xperia handsets 

Along with a new Xperia tablet, rumours have been circulating regarding new Android Xperia devices.

The Xperia T is said to feature a dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip, a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 pixel display, and 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor.

The Sony Xperia J is a lower-cost model in the Xperia range, with a 4-inch screen and relatively low-powered 800MHz processor.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 

Samsung has confirmed that the company will show its next Galaxy Note device at IFA, although not much is known about it.

Speculated to be the Galaxy Note II, the device is rumoured to feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 display, an Exynos 4412 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, an 8MP rear-facing camera, 3G and 4G LT E connectivity, 16/32GB storage sizes and will apparently come loaded with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

LG Optimus G

LG recently revealed its Optimus G, and are expected to show off the company’s most-powerful smartphone to date.

In addition to being powered by Qualcomm’s new S4 Pro quad-core processor, the smartphone features Android 4.0 Ice-cream Sandwich, 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 True HD IPS+ display, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel camera, and 2100 mAh battery.
