Samsung announced its ES9000 range of television sets for the South African market at an event held in Sandton today (13 September 2012).

Only the 75-inch model of the ES9000 was launched today, with Samsung SA’s TV division business leader, Justin Shaw, pointing to their ES8000 range when asked about smaller models.

Shaw also said that the market for TVs larger than 65-inch is growing nicely in South Africa.

Matthew Thackrah, deputy MD for Samsung SA, said that as of July, GfK statistics showed that in terms of value Samsung has 41% market share in the flat-panel TV space.

They also have 33% market share in the home entertainment system space, Thackrah said.

Pricing and availability

Asked about the price for the new TV, Shaw said that the recommended retail price for the 75-inch ES9000 is R110,000.

The Samsung ES9000 launched in South Africa during the last week, Shaw said.
