Google Nexus 7 in SA: pricing and launch details

The Google Nexus 7 tablet PC, which is manufactured by Asus, will officially be available in South Africa as soon as the first week of October.  This is according to Asus South Africa and its reseller channels.

Asustek South Africa told MyBroadband that the Google Nexus 7 will become available locally in October, and referred queries about pricing and exact launch dates to their reseller channel.

Platinum Micro, a distribution partner for Asus products in South Africa, said that they expect the Google Nexus 7 to become available in the first or second week of October. Platinum Micro further said that consumers will be able to purchase the device online from one of their resellers, WebAntics.

WebAntics said that they expect the device in the first week of October, adding that they are currently accepting pre-orders for the Nexus 7.  WebAntics will only stock the 16GB model which is priced at R3,090.90, which includes free delivery.

Nexus 7 already available in SA through imports

While the Google Nexus 7 will only become available through official channels in October, numerous local retailers are selling the device through direct imports.

Local IT wholesaler Esquire has also recently started to sell the Google Nexus 7, priced at R2,848.86 (VAT inc) for the 8GB model and R3,190.86 for the 16GB model.
