An update for the HTC One X to Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean” is expected to be available in SA during October 2012, 8ta boss Amith Maharaj recently told MyBroadband.

HTC made its own global announcement of the update when it revealed the HTC One X+ on 2 October 2012.

Maharaj said that so far the only device for which they have received the Jelly Bean update is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (i9250), which they have tested on the 8ta network.

The Android Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Nexus is also expected to be available next month, Maharaj said.

Android Jelly Bean is the latest iteration of Google’s popular mobile operating system which the search giant announced in June 2012 and released to the open source community in July.

Vodacom previously told MyBroadband that it was busy testing the update for the HTC One X, but it couldn’t offer an expected release date.

MTN was also not able to give an indication of when it expected the Jelly Bean update to be available, but provided the following list of devices that would be updated:

  • Samsung Galaxy S3;
  • Samsung Galaxy S Advance;
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0;
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1;
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus;
  • Samsung Galaxy Note;
