Sony’s 84-inch Ultra HD television has been voted the best TV in 2012 by South Africa’s top technology gurus. The LG 84-inch Ultra HD LED TV and Samsung’s 75-inch Series 9 LED TV received special mention.

2012 was a great year for innovation in the television market. The year kicked off with the unveiling of LG’s 55-inch OLED TV at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Television manufacturers followed LG’s lead with thinner, better and cheaper televisions, but to compete for the top spot more was needed than merely releasing another full HD TV.

Sony and LG left many people breathless with their very large ultra HD televisions with a resolution which is four times higher than full HD television.

To separate the great TVs from the truly exceptional devices, MyBroadband assembled a few of South Africa’s top tech gurus. This group included:

  • Aki Anastasiou – Radio 702 Technobyte and Tech on Tap presenter
  • Arthur Goldstuck – World Wide Worx MD and Gadget.co.za editor
  • Jannie van Zyl – Vodacom executive and tech guru
  • Jan Vermeulen – MyBroadband journalist
  • Gerrit Vermeulen – Software developer and MyBroadband reviewer

This panel shrugged off the R279,000 price tag, and voted the Sony 84-inch Ultra HD Bravia LED TV as the top television of 2012.

The TV sports a 4K X-Reality Pro Picture Engine with up scaling capability to 4K, Motionflow XR960 technology and built-in WAN.
