2008 was a decent year for gaming. Most notably, the PS3 had a good year, with the second and third spots going to PS3 exclusives. There were a lot of big name titles, and an unfortunate amount of disappointments.

Spore was one of the year’s most hyped games, but was not received all that well by the review community. Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 also disappointed, delivering stale and repetitive game play.

Other notable mentions

-    Bioshock (PS3) 90%
-    Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 (Xbox360) 90%
-    Fable II (Xbox 360) 89%
-    Left 4 Dead (PC,Xbox360) 88%
-    Sins of a Solar Empire (PC) 88%
-    Dead Space (Xbox360, PS3, PC) 87%
-    FarCry 2 (PC, Xbox360, PS3) 86%

Not the best year for the PC

The list is dominated by console games, indicating that 2008 was not a particularly good year for PC gaming.

There were however three big PC exclusive MMO releases in 2008, perhaps indicating that this is where the platforms future lies. Age of Conan was a disappointment. Warhammer Online was celebrated as the World of Warfc killer, and World of Warcraft itself topped 11million subscribers and brought out the highly anticipated Wrath of The Lich king expansion.
