Latest IT salary levels for different fields give guidelines as to what IT professionals earn in various fields

Online job portal CareerJunction recently released its latest CareerJunction Index (CJI), revealing the salary and recruitment trends in South Africa.  According to the report the current market is showing significant wage fluctuations.

“The continuous wage fluctuations taking place under the current economic climate means that businesses need to budget more carefully and responsibly,” says Kris Jarzebowski, CEO of CareerJunction.    “South Africa is currently facing significant skill shortages and employers should be looking at all means to retain good staff.”

Jarzebowski also stressed the importance of career seekers in identifying market-related salary packages in order to obtain a realistic approach to financial satisfaction in the current economic climate.  This begs the question what IT professional can expect to earn in the current economic climate.

IT salaries in South Africa

According to the CJI IT salaries typically range between R 8 000 per month and R 54 000 per month, depending on experience level, qualifications and the employee’s field of expertise.  There are obviously salaries lower than R 8 000 per month and much higher than R 54 000, but for the most part this is what IT professionals can expect to earn

Web and Internet professionals were the lowest earning group, followed by software testers and system & network administrators.  Database administrators and software developers are average earners while business analysts, IT researchers and IT managers are the high rollers of the IT industry.
