Telkom services have been hampered after cables endured damage in the Stormill exchange in Johannesburg.

The damage is due to a construction accident, which saw a contractor drill through the Telkom infrastructure at an intersection.

The damage has caused disruption to services to the 1078 residential, business and corporate lines. Telkom will have to replace 816 metres of cable to restore the services.

Telkom have reported the incident to the South African Police Service and intend to file legal action against the contractor.

The services of customers with the exchange codes 473 and 474 in the Industria West and Riverlea areas have been affected

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this outage and we assure our customers that we are doing everything possible to restore these services as quickly as possible,” concluded Mr Hess.
