International photography course comes to SA
Epson in conjunction with the College of Digital Photography, has announced its launch of the Epson Print Academy. Currently running in the U.S., Europe, and Japan, the course is now coming to South Africa.
The course starting on the 26th January, conducted by professional photographers – Udo Kieslich, David Randel and Frank Krummacher – is aimed at professional and amateur photographers as well as students, lecturers and anyone else involved in professional or semi-professional photo printing.
The Print Academy covers a variety of techniques, technologies and workflow demonstrations.
“What we try and achieve through the Academy,” says Frank Krummacher, senior lecturer at the College of Digital Photography, “is to give photographers the know-how to go out, purchase the correct high-quality printer and do the printing themselves, without the uncertainty of leaving this critical job to somebody else.”
“As photographers move from analogue printing methods to digital ones, there are a number of misconceptions that need to be addressed, all of which are laid out in the Academy’s printing course.”
“The idea that printing costs are much higher utilising inkjet technology is one such misconception. We have proven on numerous occasions that printing even large format prints on a reliable Epson inkjet is more cost-effective and less frustrating than sending the print off to a lab to be printed,” adds Udo Kieslich, senior lecturer at the College of Digital Photography.
A number of sponsors have lent their support to the workshops by donating equipment that is used during the workshops. The sponsors include eProfile Distributors, Eizo Monitors, Elinchrom Lighting Systems, Olympus, Q-Image Software Rip, Sandisk and X-Rite Spectrophotometers.
Epson’s invested interest in the program is to convince people that they can print high quality photograph using Epson printers.
These one-day courses will commence on 26 January 2009 and will be held monthly thereafter at the College’s Saxonwold campus in Johannesburg. The cost of the course is R1,799 for the day.
