Firefox add-on

Mozilla’s Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers (18.21% market share), and with its add-on support, allows users to add greater functionality with first and third-party enhancements.

Web of Trust, Download Statusbar, Ciuvo, Apture Highlights, and Greasemonkey are a number of add-ons to give your browser an edge.

Web of Trust – Safe Browsing Tool

The Web of Trust (WOT) is an add-on which gives a crowd-sourced rating for websites, showing how reliable and safe it seems. The rating is generated through a combination of user-feedback and third-party data sources. A traffic light system illustrates when a website is suspicious, untrustworthy, or reputable.

Download Statusbar

Instead of opening a separate download window, Download Statusbar will allow Firefox to place a download bar at the bottom of the current screen.

The bar is customisable, and will also hide when not in use.

Ciuvo

Ciuvo is a browser add-on which enhances the online shopping experience.

When looking at a product on Amazon or any other online retailer, Cuivo will scan the product page and find other deals for the same product around the web.

Ciuvo will also pull customer reviews of the product on-hand.

Persona Plus

An add-on to enhance aesthetics, Personas Plus lets you customise your browser with different skins, which you download and install.

Installing the add-on places a small “fox mask” icon in your status bar or add-on bar which, when you click on it, pops up a menu where you can select, change, or even randomise your Firefox Persona.

Greasemonkey

Greasemonkey is more for the purists who want to get the most out of their browser.

It allows you to customise the way that web pages act and function through a system of userscripts that are available to download.

Essentially, a userscript is something which edits the way in which a website, or selection of websites, is seen.

Ranging from time management scripts, to spam blocking scripts, there are a wide range of enhancements available for download.
