South Africa’s Census 2011 shows that less than half of South African household had access to the Internet

Stats SA released the results of its Census 2011 today (30 October 2012), showing that less that half of South African households have access to the Internet.

The Census 2011 document shows there were 51,770,560 people in the country at midnight on 9 October 2011, the date of the 2011 Census, compared to 44,819,778 counted a decade earlier.

The results further showed that 64.8% of households in South Africa had no access to the Internet.

Of those households that had access to the Internet, 16.3% accessed it via cellphone, 8.6% from home, 5.6% from elsewhere and 4.7% from work.
