Apple’s iTunes Store has been launched in over 50 new countries today (4 December 2012), including South Africa, the company announced in a press statement this morning.

According to Apple the iTunes Store features local artists including Elka in Russia, Sezen Aksu in Turkey, AR Rahman in India, and Zahara in South Africa.

Users can choose from over 20 million songs available to purchase and download on the iTunes Store.

In the press statement Apple also said that movie fans can choose from a wide selection of films available for rent or purchase from the iTunes Store.

However, at the time of writing movies were not available in the South African store.

The “Games” category is also still not available in the South African iTunes App Store.

This means that South Africans that want the full line-up of content from iTunes will still need to use the iTunes Stores in countries that include everything, such as the US or UK.
