Within hours of its official release, the iPad 3 has been jailbroken by well known iPhone hacker MuscleNerd.

MuscleNerd took to Twitter to announce his achievement, following his successful attempt to gain root access on the device.

He does note however that this is “just the first step” and there is “still lots of work to do”.

MuscleNerd also uploaded two screenshots to confirm his claim. One displayed root access on the device, while the other showed the Cydia app store.

There is no expected time frame for a public release of the hack.
