Groupon exposes customer emails

User email addresses have slipped out of the group-buying website’s service

Groupon

A problem in Groupon’s email link encryption has made some Groupon members’ emails visible through Google search.

When “addx” is added into a Google search term featuring Groupon, the results expose many users’ email addresses.

This is the second time the issue has occurred, where Shinji Kuwayama, Groupon’s director of engineering, said that the email addresses were made public because some subscribers had “pasted their deals into publicly-crawlable pages around the Web”.

The problem seems to be have remedied for now, although some users say that some modified search terms still find the information.
