Amazon is reportedly readying to enter the mobile race and take on Google and Apple by developing its own smartphone.

The online retail giant is cooperating with hardware maker Foxconn, who are in the process of developing a competitive mobile device to challenge the iPhone and Android-based phones.

Amazon is beefing up their portfolio, as the company has been filing multiple wireless technology patents over the last couple months.

Rumours suggest that the device will be revealed and possibly made available within the fourth quarter of 2012.
