iPad Mini reveal event invites are said to be going out to the media on 10 October, according to a source.

The inside source (which is said to be a major Apple investor) told Fortune that invitations to the launch of the smaller tablet will be formally sent out to journalists on 10 October, with a reveal to follow on 17 October.

According to rumours, Apple’s unannounced product, dubbed the “iPad Mini,” will have a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display, which is noticeably smaller than the 9.7-inch screen of the existing iPad, now in its third generation. It will also be lower-resolution than the iPad 3′s Retina display.

Some leaked images also made their way from a source “close to [the] Apple production line in China”, showing an alleged iPad Mini in production.
