Since its launch, iPhone 5 users have noticed a purple haze when taking daylight photos with Apple’s new device.

Initially appearing as a lighting issue, the problem then appeared more specific when photos were compared to the same shot using an iPhone 4S.

Apple first responded to complaints, saying that its “normal behaviour” for the device, but now an official support response has added some advice for users encountering the problem.

“Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect,” said the post.

The source of the purple glow is said to be attributed to a new coating on the iPhone 5’s camera.
