Six billion people use mobile devices

Mobile devices have seen large growth since 2011 – with new figures boasting six billion concurrent users, worldwide

There are six billion mobile device users, according to figures from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Smartphones and tablets are now in the hands of nearly 85% of the world’s population, with China accounting for around one billion of the users.

India is just under one billion, while Brazil and Mexico are among the top telecom markets in terms of revenue.

As of the end of 2011, roughly 1.1 billion users had mobile internet access.
