Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom has expressed plans to launch a new file-storage service, despite his original creation being shut down by authorities.
Dotcom’s planned new service, simply called “Mega”, will allow users to share files that will be encrypted with a key that users will have. This will allow only the users and app developers to control access to the files available.
“If servers are lost, if the government comes into a data center and rapes it, if someone hacks the server or steals it, it would give him nothing,” Dotcom said in an interview with Wired about the new service. “Whatever is uploaded to the site, it is going to be remain closed and private without the key.”
